Blackjacks beat Olympic Club (Apr 29, 2006)

The Blackjacks took care of business again last Saturday, downing Olympic Club 21-17 at Star Nursery Field in lovely Las Vegas. Olympic club came to play with a powerful forward pack and led 10-3 in the first half before Vegas coach Steve Richards touched down a try to put Vegas on track.

The Blackjacks kept the pressure on and in the second half fatigue seemed to tug at the boots of the visitors as holes started to open in the middle of their defense. The Blackjacks backs do not require much room and repeatedly knifed through the Olympic Club line. O-club tried to use their kicking game to keep the Blackjacks off of the attack, but with Vegas backliners refusing to let kicks hit the ground, this repeatedly put the ball into the most dangerous hands on the field; bookend brothers Colin and Seta Tuilevuka and mercurial fullback Joe Nawaqa.

Olympic put together a hard push toward the end of the game that resulted in nothing but bruises and seemed to take the last bit of determination from a tough Olympic club side. Look out, South Carolina!
